About ORBII Safety
An Indian women’s-safety startup building the thing we could not find: help that arrives before you can reach your phone.
Who we are
ORBII Safety is a women’s personal-safety startup founded in 2026 in India by Jatin Kumar (Founder and CEO) and Vishnu (Co-founder). We build ORBII, an Android app that lets someone call for help without touching their phone, and ORBII Helpers, a companion app for the verified responders who answer those calls.
We are a small, self-funded team building in public, campus by campus, starting in the National Capital Region. We are not a marketplace, an insurance product, or a data business. We sell a subscription, and that is the only way we make money from this.
Why we built it
India’s NCRB recorded 4,48,211 crimes against women in 2023, roughly one every minute, and 32,032 rapes, around 88 a day. The number that shaped our design is a different one: over 96% of survivors already knew their attacker.
That statistic breaks the standard safety app. A panic button assumes a stranger, a warning, and a free hand to press it. When the danger is someone you know and the situation turns in seconds, nobody unlocks a phone and finds an icon. So we built the trigger around the one thing a person can still do: speak.
What ORBII does
- Hands-free Voice SOS. Say “help”, “bachao” or “madad” out loud and ORBII raises an alarm, with the screen off and the phone in a bag.
- On-device listening. Speech recognition runs entirely on the phone, in English and Hindi. Audio is never uploaded, streamed, or sold.
- Your circle, instantly. An SOS sends your name and live location to the people you chose, starts evidence recording, and puts 112 one tap away.
- Built for bad signal. An SMS lifeline for when data fails, and a Bluetooth mesh relay that hops an alert phone to phone when there is no network at all.
What works today, and what does not
Safety software attracts overclaiming, because the promises are emotional and nobody can verify them until the worst moment. So we publish the line plainly:
- Live and in daily use: hands-free Voice SOS, trusted circles, live location sharing, geofencing and safe zones, Safe Journey, evidence recording.
- Built, but still in field testing: the offline Bluetooth mesh relay, and the ID-verified responder network.
If a feature is in the second list, we will say so on the page that describes it. We would rather lose a download than have someone rely on something we have not proven.
Our position on your data
We will never sell user data, to anyone, for any amount. Not to colleges, not to advertisers, not to data brokers. Where ORBII is licensed to a campus, the institution buys student licences and receives no dashboard and no access to student data. Location history is deleted every night at midnight IST. Voice never leaves the device.
This is a commercial constraint we accepted deliberately. A safety app that monetises location is not a safety app.
